Dietitians in Gluten and Gastrointestinal Disorders (DIGID)

Dietitians in Gluten and Gastrointestinal Disorders

About Us

Since its inception, DIGID has faithfully served its purpose to bring strong representation of gluten-related disorder to AND. In this short time, DIGID has brought together specializing dietitians to complete the Evidence Analysis Project, the Celiac Disease Toolkit, and soon to come will be a Certificate of Training in Gluten-Related Disorders. The pioneering leaders of DIGID have truly created widespread awareness among dietitians, industry, and government that has immeasurably improved care to patients with gluten-related disorders.

Now is the time to encompass even more practitioners and bring an equal level of evidence-based standards of care to the Academy for additional gastrointestinal disorders.

DIGID’s goals will continue to be:

  1. Establish and advance and standards of care in gastrointestinal disorders
  2. Work with federal and health agencies in establishing policies that are beneficial to persons with gastrointestinal disorders
  3. Develop education materials for patients and professionals

This year look for these upcoming enhancements to DIGID:

  • Webinars
  • Wider variety of newsletter articles
  • Online resources for dietitians - handouts and websites
  • Calendar of events for continuing education and patient support
  • Speakers bureau
  • Partnerships with industry

The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), founded in 1897, consists of more than 16,000 members from around the globe who are involved in all aspects of the science, practice, and advancement of gastroenterology. AGA is committed to advancing and fostering the development and application of the science and practice of gastroenterology and closely related fields of study, medical and scientific by providing leadership and aid in all aspects of this field, including patient care, research, teaching, continuing education and scientific communication, and matters of national health policy pertaining to Gastroenterology.
There is substantial alignment between the respective missions of AGA and the DMNT, and we are currently working together to:
  • Create new and update current diet and nutrition content to help improve digestive conditions on the AGA GI Patient Center.
  • Develop a web-based directory of expert dietitians specializing in GI conditions.
  • Publish a collection of the best scientific and clinical practice publications on GI nutrition topics from AGA and Academy publications to be used for practitioner education.
Thanks to DIGID member Nancee Jaffe, MS, RDN, for initiating and leading this relationship. Stay tuned for more information and a call for volunteers.
